It essentially replaces the old style metal gate with a thin band of flexible resin gently cupping the buccal-gingival areas of each abutment tooth. This allows for a very resilient (stress relieving) frame with substantial retention. For weak teeth, this is a huge improvement over metal gates. The simplicity of this appliance not only eliminates the long term problems with gates loosening, but improves patient comfort enormously. Made in any shade, tissue or tooth color, the aesthetic benifit of this restoration is obvious.
