How it works...

Acetal resin clasps engage the first third (or origin) of the undercut rather than the terminal third as in metal clasps allowing three to four times the retention of metal. The clasp can then be placed more gingival, increasing it's aesthetic appeal beyond the obvious colored properties.

Things it does well...

  • Hiding Clasps: Usually attached to a chrome major connector, Acetal Resin comes in 18 Vita shades +3 pink shades, to match more people's teeth or gums. See resin shades fig. 1
  • Unilaterals: A fantastic replacement for temperamental metal unilaterals. See fig. 2
  • Swing-Lock Type Frames: Labial bars can replace bulky, inaesthetic metal swing-lock type bars. See fig. 3
  • Teeth: Teeth and clasps can be injected together in resin, adding many new applications. See fig. 4
  • Bite Openers: This can be an aethetic way to raise bites with a more natural feel then conventional metal openers with superior aesthetics.
  • Labial Flange: A simple way to hide unsightly root structure with a click in resin "cover". light and comfortable, this product was developed here at Chrome Works Inc to help patients aesthetically replace lost tissue.
  • Injecting in an Existing Denture: Acetal Resin can be easily injected into an existing denture. We need a pick-up impression of the denture in the mouth with a special attention paid to the teeth being clasped.
  • Unusual Clasping: Pink Acetal Resin can be used in a variety of ways. It can replace lost gingival tissue while maintaining very good retention. It is also suitable for avoiding severe undercut problems associated with spayed anteriors. See fig. 6
  • Adjusting: Adjusting is usually not necessary or recommended as the clasp is injected to the tooth contour and is permanent. There are some considerations; however, to reduce the substantial retentive properties of this type of clasp. As we do in the final fitting of the appliance on a model, one might wish to reduce the amount of retention. This is done using a black rubber point on a slow speed (this material is soft). Lightly polish the guide plane. A polish kit is available for fine adjusting and polishing resin. See fig. 7

Please remember that once the Acetal Resin has been trimmed away, the resin cannot be replaced; only re-injected.

Limitations

MSDS Thermoflex
Identification data of the substance or compound and the manufacturing company Thermoflex
Compound Type Identity Product Code: TSM Acetal Dental (Acetal Resin) POM
Supplier: Pressing dental SRL
Via Eldorado Collamrini 5/d

Composition / Information on the ingredients
Chemical features of the compound
  • Omopolymer
  • Polyoximetheylene
Possible Dangers
Serious Dangers None
  • Temporary Partials: We no longer recommend an injected resin major connector for these reasons:
    1. Major connectors might be rigid while resin is flexible.
    2. Flexible resin will not seal around the base of denture teeth, allowing seepage of fluid under and around the teeth.
    3. Resin is not relinable or repairable.

We do recommend resin-clasping embedded in your normal denture base material as in a stay-plate type appliance. It will look better, function better and be relinable and repairable. It will also be cheaper to make. We can make individual clasps or inject in your finished dentures.

  • Resin Anterior Teeth: Unless they are temporary
  • Crib Clasps in Resin: Unless we have a good diasterna between the teeth, it won't function well.

Complications

  • Limited Undercut: Please check to see if there is undercut at the origin area of the tooth you wish to clasp. If there is insufficient undercut see fig. 8 for a guide to prep the teeth.
  • Inaccurate Suface Area of Model to be Clasped: Please remember that the clasp will be injected to the tooth surface of the model and it must be free of inaccuracies.
