Here’s a way to add some stress relief to an upper partial. Often overlooked, the torque on abutment (clasped) teeth can be significant and potentially terminal to the tooth.  This design allows for a slight amount of flex in the major connector so the saddles can flex independent of the clasp apparatus.

Other types of stress eliminators are simple hinges. Although we don’t recommend hinges on uppers simply because gravity will pull the saddles downward, on lowers, they can eliminate a large amount of torque.

Clasp design can be a factor in stress relief also. Wrought wire, PGP and Gold wire clasps are very forgiving to the abutment teeth. Cast round clasps are also a good option when you want full direction flex in a clasp.
